Snowy Dreams

Summary: Mulder and Scully have a snowball fight, and Mulder meets a old family member. (The plots kinda screwy.)

The X-Files

Dana Scully's apartment

Mulder stared out the window. Snow. He grimaced. He hated snow, and by the look of it, he was about to be snowed in. He sighed and turned. He braced his back against the window. The coolness of it seeped through his cotton shirt.

She was bent over small box of Christmas ornaments. Her face hidden by her red hair. Her small doctors fingers sorting through the ornaments. She made a small sound of triumph as she pulled a little plastic thing from the box. He recognized it immediately, he had given her that ornament last year, two collies smiling at each other and a small inscription at the bottom. 'Partners are like best friends'.

    "Mulder?"

He looked up at her. Her blue eyes sparkled with the Christmas spirit. He smiled involuntarily. She looked so relaxed. He hardly ever saw her like this. Her jeans were kind of big but they accented her figure wonderfully. Her T-shirt on the other hand was big enough to fit Mulder in there with her. Which wasn't all that bad an idea to him.

"Earth to Mulder. Come in Mulder." She smiled when he realized he was caught day dreaming.

"Yeah Scully?" he shifted and Scully got a wonderful view of the taunt muscles of his chest and abdomen under his shirt. She quickly raised her eyes, less she may lose her control and take him right then and there.

"Help me with the star? The tree's to tall for me." His heart swelled. Dana Scully was never the kind to ask for help, especially when it had to do with her height.

She held out the star for him to take, but was completely taken by surprise when he picked her put and held her up by the top of the tree. She just stared at the star in her hand, her mind trying to process what just happened and trying to make some sort of reaction happen.

"Scully, I can't hold you up all day, ya' know."

"Oh sorry" she blushed and placed the star on the top of the tree. He lowered her to the floor and she heard him mumble something. She turned to face him and cocked and eyebrow at him. "What?"

"I said that if I had to hold you up there any longer my arms would have fallen off. How much do you weight Scully?" he smirked and she swatted at him. His chest made a dull, thud, when her hand connected with it.

"Ok, ok, I'm sorry." He smiled rubbing his chest where she had hit him. She suddenly remembered that he had brought her favorite movie. He turned away from her and moved to his trench coat. He extracted the videotape, and held it up in front of her. She smiled her eyes bright with excitement.

"Won't feel like Christmas with out 'The Exorcist'." He said, moving towards the TV and popping in the tape. He had started spending Saturday nights like this with Scully when they weren't on a case. They would alternate between her favorites and his. "As long as there not from you video collection" she had commented when he had suggested bring over some video's to watch a few weeks ago.

He flicked off the lights and joined Scully on the couch. The opening credits had finished and Scully was watching the movie intently. He took this time to watch her. Her took in ever inch that he could get. Every shadow on her face, every delicate indentation in her clothing, suggesting at the real curves of her skin, he shuddered at the thought of touching that skin. He quickly turned his attention to the movie, he could never have Dana Scully, and even if they both wanted it he could never have her. The universe would plot against him, and ripe her from his grasp, again. But oh god did he want to hold her. To wash away her pain. To let her know that just because she couldn't have children didn't mean she couldn't be loved.

A small sound made Dana turn from the movie and look at Mulder. Tears where streaming down his face and he was staring at her. She scooted over on the couch and placed a hand on his cheek. She wiped away his tears with her fingers. Her clear blue eyes searching his green one's.

"Mulder?" concern. Her beautiful brow was creased with it. He suddenly couldn't stand her look at him and he stood. He crossed to the window and leaned against it. She sat understanding that when he wanted to face her he would.

He took several deep breaths, the pictures of her dead body slowly fading from his eyes. He suddenly felt that he had to get out of there. He wished that Scully would take him in and shelter him with her heart. Taken the pain and banishing it with her Ice Queen stare.

Dana watched as Mulder visibly fought his demons. She wanted to rush to his side, to help him fight the demons of the night that threatened his very existence. The demons that took his sister so long ago and the same demons that killed her sister less then 4 years ago. She stood and moved to his side. She won't let him do it alone. She placed a hand on his shoulder and he flinched.

"Mulder" she soothed trying to get him to look at her, but he kept his face covered by his hands. Suddenly he turned from her. He strode towards the door, grabbing his jacket along the way. He slipped it on and slipped out the door with a mumbled apology. She watched him walk to his car and climb in.

She watched him start it and drive off. She knew where he was going. She walked over to the TV and stopped the taped just as the little girls head started to spin. She turned the lights in the tree off and reached for the phone. Even though she knew he wasn't going there she called her mother anyway. You never knew when Mulder would get the sudden urge to talk with her mother. Just before he was about to pick up the phone her cell-phone rang. She reached into her pocket and answered it.

    "Scully"

"Dana? It's mom. Have you seen Fox?" Dana smiled, ofcourse her mother would be worried about Mulder. The poor man. It was three day's before Christmas and this was one of the hardest times of the year for him. That and Samantha's birthday.

"Yes mom. He just left from here."

"He's driving? In this snow?" Dana glanced outside and for the first time realized it was snowing.

"Don't worry mom. I'll go make sure he's all right. He probably is on his way home."

"All right. Be careful" Dana said good bye to her mother and ran out the door to her car. She climbed in and started the car. The radio turned on. It was tuned to Mulder's favorite station. A sad song played out of the speakers.

In your eyes
The light, the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution to all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes

She leaned forward and placed her head on the steering wheel. She sighed. Why did he push her away? No matter how many times she told him that she didn't blame him with Missy's death he had taken on the burden himself. She sat up and backed out of the drive. The snow was falling in thick flakes. She'd wanted to tell him her feelings about her but she never found the right time. She had always wondered what would happen when she told him. Would he tell her he felt the same or would he run away?

Dana drove past Mulder's apartment. The lights upstairs were out but she knew that didn't mean anything. He wasn't home and she knew it. He never was at home when he had to think or fight his demons. He would be at the Jefferson Memorial. She'd found him there a few times, eat or drinking or just simply thinking.

* * * *

Jefferson Memorial

He sat head in hands on the cold stone. His slacks were wet and confining. His wet hair was plastered to his forehead. He sensed her approach before he heard her. Like he could hear anything in this snow. He want more then anything to hug her like a little boy hugs his mother after his dog runs away. He wanted to bury his head in her chest and cry like a two year old. He didn't look up when she sat in the snow next to him.

"Mulder. Your soaking wet and it's 50 below out here. Do you think, next time, you could pick some place warm to fight your demons?" He smirked at the tone of her voice, playful but concerned, "Mulder. Come on your going to get sick out here."

Like that would be so bad. Dana would be over every hour checking up on him. She would be like....oh god....like his mother. He shuddered at the thought. Did he really think of her like that? Did he love her because she was a mother figure? No. She answered that one immediately. Scully was Scully, the goddess women that had taken on his paranoid, alien's are among us, ass and shaped him into a force to be reckoned with. She had taken a messed up, hopeless, unloved man and gave him something he could hold on too. Her. She had taken all the shit he could dish out and was still there. She gave him the power to find the truth and she was the one to ground him when his theories got too 'out there'.

She touched him lightly and he turned about a half an inch toward her. 'Well it's a start.' Under her fingers she could feel him relaxing. She marveled at what her touch could do to him. Calm him and sooth him when he need her.

"Mulder, please." He shuddered. How many times had he heard that voice say those words in his head while relieved his self in the dark of the night. He looked up at her. Her blue eyes were crystal clear and her hair was wet and in her eyes. He reached up to brush it behind her ear, but instead her cupped her cheek. She leaned her head into his hand and closed her eyes.

"I'm sorry I made you come out here Scully." He stood and helped Scully to her feet. He walked her to her car. When she got to the car Dana turned around to face Mulder. The snow fell all around them silencing every sound but their breathing. She leaned back against the car and looked deep into his eyes. He leaned forward and invaded her personal space. He kissed the tip of her nose and then whispered in her ear. He didn't say anything really just small promises that he would never hurt her. He pulled back then and went to his car. Scully climbed into hers and started it. She sat there for a few minutes trying to get her racing breath under control.

Something tapped at her window and she reached for her gun. And pressed it to the glass of her window.

"Scully, it's me. I thought you promised you would never shoot me again." He smiled through the window.

"You car won't start, huh? Get in, you can spend the night at my house." He stared at her for a second then crossed to the other side of the car and climbed in.

She dove him to his apartment. As she had suspected he had no heat. He ran into the building and a few minutes later he came out carrying at box. She smiled slightly and then drove them both home.

Dana Scully's apartment

"Mulder. Go and get out of those cloths. You can borrow my robe." Scully said ushering Mulder towards the bathroom. She followed him in a d peeled his trench coat, the black jacket of his three piece suit, and his shirt. The muscles on his back ripped as he stretched.

"Mulder would you like to celebrate one of the Scully Christmas traditions with me?" she asked turning from him while he took of his pants.

"Sure. As long as you celebrate a Mulder Christmas tradition with me tomorrow." He said looking at her with a gleam in his green eyes.

"Deal. I'll go make the popcorn." She said leaving the bathroom heading for the living room. Scully crouched down in front of the TV and looked through her cabinet for 'Prancer'. She wanted to watch 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' but she didn't have that one on tape. She stood and walked into the kitchen. She found the popcorn, she stuck it in the microwave and set the machine. When she returned with the popcorn, Mulder was siting on the couch. The TV was playing the movie but she didn't notice that.

His face was in a slight profile to her and she almost dropped that popcorn at how handsome he looked. He looked over his shoulder and she did drop the popcorn, unfortunately her body followed the popcorn. He was at her side in a second.

"Scully?" He had on hand on her shoulder and the other moving the broken bowl away from her. She looked down at her hand and realized that when her hand hit the floor it had landed on a peace of the broken bowl. She stood quickly and went to the bathroom.

Mulder quickly cleaned up the broken pieces of glass and trashed the bowl and the popcorn. The then followed Scully's path to her bathroom. The door was left slightly ajar and he opened it with a knock.

"Are you all right? You didn't cut yourself badly did you, Scully?"

Dana leaned against the basin. The throbbing had slowed in her hand. The bleeding had stopped but she still felt weak in the knees. She felt his arms circle around hers. She turned around and leaned into him. The heat from his body wrapped around her. She flicked her tongue at his Adam's apple. He tasted of salt and snow. He bent his head and kissed her forehead. Her skin flamed under his touch. She could feel the control of her body begin to slip. She didn't care. As long as she lost it with Mulder she didn't care about losing her control.

He moved his head and kissed just below her ear. He kissed her all the way down her neck and stopped at her vein. He mumbled something against her skin and nibbled at her neck. She gasped softly at the touch.

"What?" she asked when she finally had enough breath to talk.

"I said 'do you believe in vampires, Agent Scully?" she chuckled and he silenced her with a kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. Mulder let his hands travel inside her shirt. His fingers traced lazy circles over her skin. She shivered as the gooseflesh rose behind his touch. He made his way up her body, bringing the shirt with his touch. He broke the kiss to pull her shirt over her head. Dana's quick doctor's fingers unbuttoned Mulder's shirt in a flash. She thanked god that he hadn't worn and undershirt tonight. Mulder kissed her again and shrugged off his shirt. His mouth left hers and he kissed down her neck to her breasts he undid the front clasp of her bra with his tongue. His hands slipped off her bra, revealing her swelling breasts.

She pushed him back, "Mulder do you really want to do this in the bathroom?"

He snaked out an arm, but she avoided it. She crossed to the door and he followed her. He caught her in the hall. She turned to face him.

"What's wrong with the bathroom?" he asked against her lips before kissing her passionately.

"Dana? Are you home?" Scully froze in his arms. She broke the embrace and sprinted back to the bathroom.

Margaret Scully walked around the corner of the hall. She spotted Fox and he blushed slightly. He wore an old pair of sweatpants and no shirt. The pants were obviously Dana's become they were way to small for him.

"My...Scully...I got soaked, my car wouldn't start, the heat in my building is out, Scully's drying my cloths for me." His face had gotten progressively redder the whole time he had been talking.

Margaret nodded to herself. She had wanted to make sure both Fox and Dana were all right during this storm. She looked up just as Dana exited from the bathroom. A smile fought its way onto her lips, Dana emerged from the bathroom in a pair of jeans and in Mulder's shirt. The very same shirt he had told her that Dana was drying for him.

"Hi Mom. What's up?" Dana asked as if nothing was wrong.

"Oh nothing. Just wanted to make sure you had enough food. I hope you offered Fox the spare bedroom. He shouldn't have to go home to a cold apartment."

"Don't worry mom. Mulder's going to spend the night. I wouldn't let my favorite partner spend the night in a cold apartment...no matter how much he deserves it." Dana said, ushering her mother towards the door, "Bye mom. I'll call you tomorrow."

"Bye Mrs. Scully. Don't worry about Scully, I'll make sure she doesn't do anything she would regret." Mulder said.

"If your not careful Mulder I'm going to make you regret your spending the night." Dana said shutting the door.

"Oh it that a threat Agent Scully?" Mulder was so close his breath stirred her hair, "I hope you didn't put that bra back on..." Mulder reached up and locked the door.

"Mulder! She could have heard you!" Dana swatted at Mulder's chest and he smiled.

"Oh come on Scully. She's probably known for a lot longer then we have, that we're perfect for each other."

He gathered her up in his arms. She nuzzled his throat with her nose.

"Are we perfect for each other, Mulder?" She kissed his Adam's apple, her tongue flicked against his skin, igniting tiny flames at all of his nerve endings. He ducked his head and kissed her lips softly.

"We're a match made in heaven, Scully. Our lives are as intertwined as the stars." She looked up at him. Her clear blue eye's shining with love.

"Oh, Mulder" Her finger's played little games of tag across his face. He smiled and backed her toward the couch.

"Now what about that Scully Christmas tradition?" he asked as the laid together on the couch. He dropped butterfly kisses down her jaw line and down her neck and stopped at the collar of his shirt.

"Forget my tradition's Mulder. What about yours?"

"That can wait till tomorrow. I think we'll be to busy tonight anyway."

Scully's living room couch

"What about this tradition Mulder?" Scully asked her hands drawing tiny circles on his bare back.

He lifted his head and looked out the window. It had stopped snowing. Mulder stood and pulled Scully to her feet.

"Get dressed Scully. I'm taking you out." Scully eyed him, but she did as she was told. When she came back out, Mulder was dressed. Mulder stood and noted with pleasure at how Scully was dressed. She wore sweat pants and a sweatshirt. Even in baggy clothing she looked beautiful to Mulder. He grabbed her hand a pulled her out the door.

"I used to do this with Samantha every time it snowed." He let go of her and bent down. He scooped up a handful of snow and dropped it on her head.

"HEY!" Scully yelped and jumped back, shaking the snow from her hair. She grabbed some snow and quickly packed it into a snowball. She flung it at Mulder and it hit him in the chest. "Mulder do you know you should never start a snowball fight with a Scully?"

He smiled and ducked behind a tree. He grabbed handful after handful of snow and quickly made snowballs. He launched them at the bush he though she had ducked behind. Scully sneaked up behind Mulder. She lifted the mount of snow over her head and dropped it. He jumped up and Scully dashed to the other end of the yard. Mulder caught her by the arm and spun her around. He stumbled and they both fell. Mulder almost landed on her but he put out his hands to catch him.

"Are you sure you did this with Samantha?" Scully asked seductively.

"Well, maybe not this exactly." He smiled and nipped at the tip of her nose.

    "Mulder! Someone will see us."

"Who, Jack Frost?" he asked nuzzling her neck.

"Hmm...lets see. The Cancerman, the consistitorium, or my mother."

Mulder rolled off of Scully. And sat up in the snow next to her. Dana stretched out and started moving her arms and legs back and forth. She made a giant snow angel. Mulder laughed when he realized what she was doing. He laughed again as he watched Dana try to get up without messing up the angel. Scully glared at him and he stood. He offered her his arm and pulled Scully to her feet. Scully smiled and looked at the finished product.

"My, my, what a beautiful angel," Mulder whispered in her ear, "but not half a wonderful as the angel that made it." Dana turned her head to look at Mulder. She smiled and he leaned forward.

"Damn! I completely forgot about Sam!" She broke the embrace and raced into the building. With a laughing smile, Mulder followed her into the building. "Scully what did you forget? And who is Sam?" Mulder asked when her reached the apartment.

"An old collage friend. And who are you?" I asked walking into the apartment. I crossed the apartment and hugged my old friend, "God. How long has it been since Berkley? You've gotten so mature. I've got a ton of questions for you. How's your mother? And what's it like working with 'spooky' huh? He drag you to any MUFON meetings?"

Dana smiled and then looked over her shoulder, "I dunno. Mulder, did we ever go to a MUFON meeting?"

I turned and leaning against the doorframe. He was about 6 feet tall, my height, he had short black hair, it wasn't a buzz cut, but it was so long that it would get in his eyes. He had my eye color, a green that looked brown in darkness. He wore wet black slacks and a white dress shirt. I watched as her took in my appearance. I cocked a brow at him.

"Agent Mulder. I've never met you but your name seems very familiar. And you obviously know me. Oh and look at me. I know you but you don't know my name." I extended a hand to him, "I'm Special Agent Samantha McKenzie. I can read your mind Agent Mulder, literally. Now please be kind and introduce yourself."

"Samantha. Oh god. It's you." He whispered. Dana rushed to his side, worried.

"Mulder?" she moved him expertly to her couch.

"Sam. It's me. Fox. Your brother. Don't you remember?" Something in his voice clicked in my brain. That voice. I had heard it before. Calling my name. Samantha. He was running up from the beach, he had a kite in his hand. "Come on Samantha. Don't you want to go kite flying? Uncle Jamie is waiting."

I gasped and sank to the floor. My memories started flooding back. It was like a floodgate was opened in my mind. Quick flashes of my mother, my father, my favorite uncle, and my bratty brother.

"Oh god. Fox. I...I remember. You had a favorite show. You never let me watch anything when that damn show was on. And one year I called you Santa Fox, because you were playing Santa in a school play or something. I was born on January 22,1964. Oh god I remember." I sobed and talked at the same time.

Mulder stood from the couch and hugged me close to him. I cried into his chest. They were tears of joy and anger, happiness and sadness. I felt one arm leave my shoulder and then Dana's arms hug me and Fox. Fox mumbled something and Dana raised her head.

    "What?"

"Don't pinch me. I'm afraid I'm dreaming. And if I am I don't want to wake up." We laughed and Fox broke away from the embrace, "I gotta make a call."

"Mulder it's 11pm, It's way past the time the 'Lone Gunmen' go to sleep. Your mother is probably asleep. Who you going to call?"

"Mom won't be asleep till late. She needs to know. I also want to call your mother."

    "Why?"

* * * *

He woke with a start. He sat up. His breath was coming in gasps. Tears streaked his face. He held his head in his hands.

    "No. Please. God."

A warm arm wrapped around his body. A warm naked body pressed against his back and he felt the whisper of kisses on his back.

"Sshh. Mulder it's ok. I'm here. It was just a dream. You're at my apartment, Mulder. I'm right here. They didn't take me. I'm ok and so are you. Now please lay back down. It's cold without you." Her soft voice comforting him as it always had. He laid back and kissed her forehead. She nestled closer to him and wrapped her arms around him.

    "Scully?" he asked softly.

    "Yea?" she asked sleepily

"I wanted to tell your mother that I've fallen in love with her daughter." Mulder slipped into a peaceful sleep for the first time in years. He would tell Scully all about the dream tomorrow.

It took a few minutes but when it hit Scully sat bolt upright in bed. Was it possible that Mulder had the same dream? Or did it really happen. Then across the room on her coat Dana recognized the pin Samantha had worn when she walked into the apartment. Dana gasped and stared at Mulder.
