Democracy is always thought to be or referred to as a state of government, in which, a group of people live under a branch or many branches of elected officials. Democracy is also a way of life, the mindset of a bunch of people who believe in a system of government that will oppress no one. Many people believe in another form of government. A form of controlled anarchy called the American democracy.

When one talks of the American government, they talk of a government whose laws have hundreds upon thousands of legal loopholes and its own constitution is riddled with age old meanings and laws that have no purpose in modern society. Most of these legal loopholes are cause by the constitution itself. With a thousand year old set of rules the government of today turns to its Supreme Court, that consists of aging white men who where most probably around at the signing of it. In hopes that they can interpret what men from a war torn country would have liked to see in their laws so that they could make it through the next few years in the country.

The first evidence of a hastily thrown together government is its Constitution. On the verge of war within the colonies, the forefather’s, who were appointed or appointed themselves, wrote a rushed document that would state the laws and guidelines for a government. Not write a law about how a thirteen-year-old must wait five days to get an automatic riffle or how a twenty-three year old is not allowed to get an abortion. The government that they envisioned was a peaceful group of states that would live in harmony an not under the oppression of England. There was no way that the forefathers of yesteryear could have predicted the changes that this country has gone through or the advances in technology that would thrust new options and ideas onto the public and government, as well as the world. It is majority doubtable that when Thomas Jefferson wrote the phrase "All men are created equal," that he meant some one other then the white male. It was no possible that he thought of his slaves as people too otherwise he would have never have owned slaves.

Next was the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was pushed to assure that the basic rights of a white landowning male would not be challenged or taken away. But what about the female and the blacks, did the Preamble of the constitution it’s self not say, "we hold these truths to be self evident that ALL men are created equal." That statement tricked more young and foolish minds that they had the same rights as everyone else, when in truth they where to be left in the dust of a horse carriage or sweep a floor.

Within the Bill of Rights there were many amendments. The first of these three amendments would cause much commotion as the technology and minds of people advanced, or shrank in some cases. The right to bear arms was an amendment that was meant to protect the common citizen form having anyone just come in there house and take there guns. It was also in direct response to the British army who constantly performed raids to keep the American revolutionists from gaining strength. But as technology expanded and weapons became more advanced this "right" was quickly becoming a bad idea. The guns that Washington and Jefferson were thinking of could fire only one shot and then had to reload. Only a very good man could fire three shots in a minute, not like today. The guns of today can fight a hundred bullets in a second and not need to be reloaded because the bullets are just feed into the machine on a chain.

Another one of the Bill of Rights laws was in direct response of the way the American’s were treated by the British. The Freedom of speech idea was and still is a great idea. But once again technology has advanced so much and it has produced a way to reach millions of people instantly. This invention is the Internet. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press go hand in hand, and the Internet is considered a press. The Supreme Court determined that certain things on the Internet are bad and should not be on there, but it’s not their job to say that. It is the Supreme Courts job to say that the Internet is a freedom of the Press and is under Freedom of speech and therefore if a Nazi in South Carolina wants to recruit members for his KKK section then he can. He has the right to do that.

Most people think that their opinion is the only one that matters and that everyone else has to listen to them. Other people may have different opinions but they do not care because they automatically assume they are right. And it is their government given right to do that.

Freedom of religion, the most important freedom that was given to the American public by the government. Without religion the American country would not be like it is and that was repressed to. When slavery was common in the south they black slaves had no churches. Most were unable to pray of preach they way they wanted to, and were forced to learn the ways of the white man’s bible. Again the government was backtracking on its laws, or just plain not recognizing a living, breathing, human being as a person of the United States.

The American Democracy was a well-balanced experiment in a free government, and even thought it has some flaws it has made many a man, and woman free. The American Democracy still has some kinks but they will iron out, more sooner than later.
